Lee Perry, Brian Eno melt our brains with “Here Come The Warm Dreads”
The two ancient geezers combine their warped minds to produce a far-out Dub proof that they can still out-twist anyone
Calling Lee “Scratch” Perry and Brian Eno living legends is so reductive that it is almost an insult. They are Gods of Noize who walk among mortals. Each of them has invented whole music genres, taken sound experimentation to places beyond human imagination, and produced some of the most celebrated songs in the history of popular music. At 83 and 71 years respectively, they come together for some fun and games on this playful remix of a track from Perry’s latest album, Rainford.
Adrian Sherwoord, who produced that album, is a mere living legend himself. A towering figure in Dub, he takes a back seat as his two heroes run amok. This is a single from an upcoming album of remixes of Rainford, and it is quite a promise. The original, “Makumba Rock” was already a fun, oriental-tinged dub ditty with religious overtones. Perry invites Eno to add some of his nutty touches, and rewards him by naming the result after one of his most famous and groundbreaking tracks.
Eno brings electronic wizardry and guitar voodoo to the mix, as the song goes from simple warm up tricks to head-spinning mindfuck. It is only disserved by the short length of the video version (although, what a video!) so play it again, Sam, or seek a longer version. Your mind needs it!
