Sampa The Great celebrates African and Black Power on “Final Form”
A black power anthem that connects past with future, roots with home, music with change
Zambia-born, Australian resident Sampa has been on our radar for years, with the promise of inspiring, change-promoting, socially concious hip hop and R&B. This highlight from her long-awaited debut album delivers all that, and has a groove that’s impossible to sit still while listening to.
With its driving funky horns and soulful vocals (sampled from the Sylvers’ “Stay Away From Me”) providing infectious, uplifting energy, it is an anthem for pride in what you are and your power to make a mark on the world. Sampa raps with assurance and charisma, and her posse’s chants make it all seem like a euphoric riot.
While the tune leans heavily on 1970s black American music, Sampa’s origins, her delivery and the accompanying video infuse it with African vibes, building a bridge to the music’s source, and delivering a message of unity.
Revolution sounds like a jubilant party on “Final Form” and you don’t want to miss out!
