Mura Masa, Slowthai tell you to just f***ing “Deal Wiv It”

The inevitable hook-up between Grime and Post-punk is here in all its fiery glory

As soon as “Deal Wiv It” bursts out of its lair like a crazed beast, you will get tingles of satisfied déjà vu. The killer bassline is all New Order, of course, and the guitar stabs and synths recall the best of Gang of Four, and many more. It’s also “Parklife”, and even more The Streets’ “Fit But You Know It”. Slowthai rides it with a punky sing-speak that connects Grime with the Sex Pistols. In short, its all the best that Britain has to offer, an update of a glorious history of arty aggression.

Producer Mura Masa and rapper Slowthai have collaborated before on “Doorman”, a cut that appears on the latter’s debut album. It was a perfect punk/rap hybrid, showcasing how naturally these two genres mesh. This new track is a natural progression, moving beyond punk to post-punk, and updating the sound with 21st century electronic production.

The crackling energy that runs through the song, with the euphoria of familiar-yet-new noise will give you a shot of adrenaline every time, and you’ll definitely be coming back for more again and again.
