There isn’t anything groundbreaking on this album, which is exactly as it’s meant to be. It is a slice of classic rap goodness with a bit of good-natured goofiness sprinkled onto it.

Chali 2na was a founding member of Hip Hop revivalists Jurassic 5, and he still follows the ethos of delivering accomplished, clean rap with no distracting bells or whistles. His ongoing partnership with UK DJ Krafty Kuts has resulted in this first album, and it’s a feast for boom-bap fans.

Chali’s deep, cavernous straight-forward rapping is the main course here, but he is accompanied by a diverse smorgasbord of talent and voices. The loose concept is that of superheroes going through the different phases of discovery, thrill and doubt, and is filled in with newsreel narration throughout.

The music runs the gamut of classic sounds, with funky guitars and bass, strings, movie soundtrack tunes, and of course some hardcore scratching. What unites it all is the sheer sense of fun you feel everyone must have had making it. It is infectious, and as soon as you listen it will get to you too. Don’t fight it, feel it!
