Marika Hackman struts a killer bassline on “i’m not where you are”

Hackman displays her impressive chops with bluesy swagger

With the profusion of female rockers recounting life as a lesbian, Marika Hackman no longer stands out for her cynical tales of gay angst. Which is just as well really, because now we can focus more on all her other talents: uncanny sense of melody, ace guitar playing, and how simple yet witty her lyrics still are.

The first single from her latest album has a killer bassline, that she keeps topping up with layers of rhythm and guitar virtuosity. Her voice oozes effortless cool as she sings of hating herself and being bored with everyone else. Nothing boring here at all.
