CHAI play naughty colorful punk on “Fashionista”

Japanese pop-punks hit back at Kawaï with gleeful mischief

Tokyo’s CHAI reportedly formed as a reaction to the rise of cutesy “kawaï” culture in Japan. In a very japanese manner, they have a bit of their nemeses in their sound: while it is indeed punky, spiky and playfully bratty, it is rather cute in its own way. The song is reportedly about inventing your own fashion, which will not start any revolution soon but has our full support. It is also infectiously listenable and makes us want to jump around and be silly, and maybe go beat up some kawaï pokémon or something to show solidarity.
