Honeyblood rock harder on swaggering “The Third Degree”

Now down to only one member, Honeyblood seems to be heading for a looser, crunchier glam sound

No drama, baby

It was nearly five years ago that Honeyblood made us prick up our ears with their fuzzy, pretty noise-pop. Their first album was a minor treasure of hard and soft, loud and quiet, all unpolished but definitely accomplished.

Having always been part of the various duos that have held the name, Glaswegian founder Stina Tweeddale is now using it solo. This track heralds a new beginning, on a new label and with a fresh sound. It is a bigger, harder-hitting glam-inspired crunch with even catchier hooks. The noise is there, the fuzz has been polished off but it’s somehow still spiky.

Stina sounds less earnest and more swaggering as she announces how she doesn’t give a fuck anymore about an ex-lover’s flirting, even wishing the best to the “new catch” as “she’s a braver girl than I.” We loved Honeyblood’s lo-fi confections, but we’re also totally on-board with the newfound spunky attitude.
